Madison Area Races Announce Venues
The decision has recently been made to remain at the "classic"
venues of Cam-Rock and Badger Prairie. The Cam-Rock race will be on
Saturday, October 13 and the race at Badger Prairie will be on
Sunday, October 14th.
Discussions have been started with the City of Madison Parks
Department regarding holding a cyclocross race in the city.
The hope is to be ready to move forward on this for 2008 and get
approval for a really great venue right here in the city. However,
that doesn't mean that there wouldn't be cross events at Cam-Rock or
Badger Prairie. At Badger Prairie there is strong potential for the
development of a redesign of the trails that would lead to the
development of a cx specific trail. Local clubs would obviously
want to continue to hold a race there if that happened and Cam-Rock
has a long history of cx racing.
USA Cycling License Change
USA Cycling
will no longer be selling half price licenses after September 1. Our
local official Heidi asked me to spread the word that the $30 price
after September is no longer available. You will have to pay either $60
for a USCF or NORBA license or pay the $10 per race.

Page and Barnholt take Day One of
Michigan's Double Cross
On a hot and dry day in SE Michigan CX
World Championships silver medalist Jonathan Page delivered a convincing
win against a very deep elite men's field. In the Elite Women's field
Kerry Barnholt took the lead from VeloBella-Kona racer Anna Milkowski to
take the lead all the way to the finish.
The Elite Men's field at DOUBLE-CROSS Day 1 was stacked with talent,
with Jonathan Page, Steve Tilford, Greg Reain, Adam Myerson, Chris
Jones, Tristan Schouten, Brent Prenzlow, and Michael Mueller lining up.
From the gun a ferocious pace was set with a select group of 10-12 being
sorted out from the large field of 50+ racers. A momentary lull as the
leaders came through the start finish saw Nerac Pro Cycling racer Chris
Jones put in a powerful attack, immediately drawing out Canadian CX
Champion Greg Reain, Jonathan Page and former Swiss CX National Champion
Michael Mueller. These four would race together for several laps.
About 1/2 through the race Jonathan Page put in a tremendous surge on
the uphill wooded section, pulling Mueller with him. These two would
continue to lead through the remainder of the race. At the finish a
bobble my Mueller on a trick off camber 120 degree turn opened the door
for Page to surge ahead and secure the win by 15 seconds.
Later that evening the top elite racers from the event attended an
informal open house, answering questions from the crowd, signing
autographs and posing for photographs.
Day 2 of DOUBLE-CROSS continues today, Sunday, Sept 23 with the Elite
Women racing at 130pm and the Elite Men racing at 3pm!!!
Full results will be posted at
www.ktrcross. com

In 2007 the race series will offer the growing following of racers eight
race dates, beginning September 15th at Highland Park in Grand Rapids,
and finishing with race at Ridgepoint Church, in Holland, on December
8th. In addition to the eight-race schedule there's also a special
"Ultra-Snow Cross" race at Versluis Orchards on January 26th.
Two of the new races on the schedule this year will visit downtown park
venues to provide some classic cyclocross racing for series followers.
On September 29th the KISSCROSS series will hit the streets and
greenways of the State Capital, Lansing, for a premiere event that's
part of a downtown fall festival. Another new race on the schedule,
sponsored by Gerber Memorial Health Services, will also race through
parks and downtown streets in Fremont, Michigan, on October 13th as part
of a city celebration.
The KISSCROSS series was originated by "Mr. KISSCROSS," Rick Plite who
has also established the Lumberjack 100 Mountain Bike Race, in
Michigan's Manistee National Forest, as a premiere event on the national
race scene.
