Schouten takes 2nd at North Carolina UCI RaceThe Sunday men's race began with Jon Hamblin (RGM-Richard Sachs) taking the hole shot. However, Matt White (Fior de Frutta) stated that, "today I was not going to play nice" made a huge move on the 180-degree turn after 'the wall' and by the end of the prologue section of the course had already established himself as the leader. Midway through the first lap, he held a 22 second lead over an eight-man chase group. With a few from the group not content racing for second, gaps began to open up during the second trip up 'the wall.' Michael Cody (Fior de Frutta), winner of Saturday's race, was the first to break out of the group. Tristan Schouten (Trek-VW), Adam Myerson (Nerac), Charlie Storm (Inland Construction) and Hamblin followed. With both Frutta boys, who had raced together the previous day up the road, the chase group became unsettled. It was Schouten, who had enjoyed the courses in North Carolina so much last year he made a return trip, made it worth it as he made a huge effort to bridge up to Cody. After one lap together, the two resolved to work together when it was obvious that Cody would not make it up to his teammate. On the final lap, Schouten made a move in the woods to lead into the last few technical sections and opened up enough of a gap to roll in for second on the day. Cody completed out the podium in third. At Saturday's UCI race Tristan placed took 5th place. Good luck to Tristan as he continues his East Coast cross campaign! the end of the Midwest cyclocross season Wisconsin CX Championship race a roaring success A huge turnout of racers and fans ensured that the Wisconsin Cyclocross Championship race at Angell Park Speedway was a roaring success. Cyclocross racers were treated to a technically demanding course and fans were treated to fast and furious racing. Photos and Video: Janesville Cyclocross race debuts in classic cross style The Janesville Velo Club debuted their cross race at Gibbs Lake Park in true cyclocross style. Racers were treated to a cold, snowy day and with the sun shining conditions quickly turned to mud. Even without snow and mud this course would have challenged riders with twists and turns, a long extended climb on the back section of the park, and a small run along side the lake. Photos and Video: Photos and Video from Carbon Clincher About MadCross Some of you may wonder what the deal is with MadCross. MadCross started very simply when Renee Callaway took a few photos of friends at a cross race back around 2000 or so. Renee had sprained her knee so wasn't racing. Of course, friends showed the photos to others so then friends of friends wanted to have photos taken. Then complete strangers asked to have their photos taken. Renee started by just putting the photos on a basic photo sharing site. Then an informal website was stated to add write ups about the races. Next thing it seemed like a good idea to buy a domain name and start a real website. Then Renee went to the Banff Film Festival and was inspired to buy a video camera. Of course, all those photos and videos take up space so upgrades to the website were needed and a real photo site was needed. The new photo website allowed for the sale of photos which helps defray the website costs. Renee also uses MadCross.org to do some fundraising each year for racers headed to CX Worlds. Unfortunately USA Cycling provides minimal to no assistance to our cyclocross team. Last year calendars and posters were sold to benefit Bjorn Selander's trip to Worlds. In addition, each year a compilation of videos from the season is made available for a donation to the World's team. However, the main purpose of the MadCross.org site is to serve as a way to promote our local race scene and to get more people excited about trying the sport.
