Carousel Volkswagen Jingle Cross Increases Elite Women’s Prize Money

Race organizers for the 3rd annual Carousel Volkswagen Jingle Cross Rock announced a new sponsor for the Women’s Elite Race. Casey’s General Stores and partner HandiMart will sponsor the women’s Elite race on both days, increasing the payout to women’s Elite payout to $2300 over the two days. Casey’s is an Iowa based Midwestern convenience store company with over 1400 locations which recently partnered with HandiMart, another convenience store centered in Eastern Iowa. This two day cyclocross event in Iowa City, Iowa will include 23 races with an overall payout of over $13,000 in cash and prizes. All proceeds benefit the Children’s Hospital of Iowa.

“We were looking for an Iowa based sponsor to help with our Women’s event, “said Race Director John Meehan of The Children’s Hospital of Iowa. “We were delighted when Casey’s and partner company HandiMart called us today offering us their charitable assistance. Casey’s is a familiar friendly face to everyone in the Midwest and they have come to the front of the paceline to help us bring this event to Iowa.”

In the 2005 women’s Elite race, Linda Sone (U.S. Hollywood Racing) took the win. This year, Sone will be challenged by returning 2004 champion Megan Elliott. Elliott will be traveling all the way from Oregon to try and reclaim her title. Overall, 6 women’s only events will take place in this year’s Carousel Volkswagen Jingle Cross Rock.

Rider registration is now open at BikeReg.com. More information can be found at the official 2006 Carousel Volkswagen Jingle Cross Rock website at www.JingleCrossRock.com.

Janesville Cyclocross race debuts in classic cross style

The Janesville Velo Club debuted their cross race at Gibbs Lake Park in true cyclocross style.  Racers were treated to a cold, snowy day and with the sun shining conditions quickly turned to mud.  Even without snow and mud this course would have challenged riders with twists and turns, a long extended climb on the back section of the park, and a small run along side the lake.
