KLM Marketing Solutions UCI Cyclocross

The weekend of Dec 2nd and 3rd cyclocross riders from around the country will travel to Kansas for the perfect tune up race before the upcoming USCF Cyclocross National Championships. The 2nd Annual KLM Marketing Solutions UCI Cyclocross and Missouri State Cyclocross Championships offer an ideal date, a well designed rolling course, and a location in the center of the U.S.

Just minutes from downtown Kansas City and located near a major airport and hotels, this event brings top level competition to the Midwest. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County hosts the event at Wyandotte County Park, a 360 acre rider’s “dream facility” with fast terrain and painful run-ups. This venue will also be the site of the 2007 & 2008 USCF Cyclocross Nationals, giving riders a chance to preview future championships.

“KLM has been working with the Unified Government for two years to ensure that the venue has the capabilities to host Nationals” stated Wayne Burns, Director of the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department. In its inaugural year 4 Time Cyclocross National Champion Steve Tilford battled the turf against former Junior World Champion Matt Kelly, while top regional riders contested all other categories.

Ashland Cyclocross

If you're in Northern Wisconsin then don't miss the Ashland Cyclocross race this Saturday, October 14.  The course starts in a grassy field, then goes onto pavement for about 100 meters, then goes into another field, which takes you up to the Tri-County Corridor (railroad grade). You turn off the railroad grade onto a snowmobile trail, which deposits you on a gravel road. The gravel road takes you to a section of singletrack and doubletrack which are home to the two running sections of the course. After the trail, there is a bit of pavement which gets you onto another section of railroad grade and back to the start line.

Mud, Mud, Mud at Whitewater and Cam-Rock

The UW Whitewater and Cam-Rock cyclocross races featured mud, mud and more mud.  Racers who doubled up on racing were treated to mud covered bikes, shoes and clothes that had to be cleaned and then re-cleaned.  The racing action on Saturday at Whitewater was slow and furious as riders tried to find any rideable sections.  Sunday the course was a little faster but slippery and with many spots that caused riders to bog down.

Cyclocross is a fall cycling sport that resembles a steeplechase where racers on cyclocross or mountain bikes traverse a park-like course with hills, turf, pavement, dirt trails, creek crossings and low wooden barricades.  Riders must dismount their bicycles and jump over barricades, experienced racers more gracefully than others.   Races are timed events lasting from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on ability.  Weather conditions vary significantly from sun to rain to snow.    Cyclocross is a great way to maintain fitness into the winter.

Points will be awarded for each race with the winner of each category receiving an Overall Series Winner jersey presented by Pactimo.

All races in this series will use the new USA Cycling cyclocross racing category classification.  A rider will be classified from 1 to 4 respectably.
