2006 Pearl Izumi Ohio Valley
Cyclo-Cross Series
5 Cities/15 Races

August 31, 2006
It's that time of the year again! After experiencing two straight seasons of tremendous growth, the Pearl Izumi Ohio Valley Cyclo-cross Series is set to explode in 2006, with cross racing opportunities galore. 15 races are being offered up this fall to Midwest riders, with over $15,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs through the 13-week series. The midpoint weekend is the highlight, the $5500 Ohio Valley UCI weekend on October 14-15 in Middletown and Cincinnati, Ohio. The series takes riders through the Midwest towns of Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, Lexington and Louisville.

Despite its short history, many of the series races have been rolling for close to 10 years. The variety of courses is superb throughout the different venues, from the blazing-fast opening race in Lexington, to the tight and technical Indiana State race at KOA Campground in Indianapolis. There is definitely something for every rider. The first race is only a few weeks away!

Racers may participate in any one of 9 categories: Mens A, Womens A, Masters 35+, Masters 45+, Mens B, Womens B, Juniors 15-18, Juniors 10-14, and Mens C. Racers accumulate points through the series based on participation and placing. New this year: racers will be able to carry some points with them if they move from lower category to higher category mid-series. Best 9 races count towards the overall. Series award ceremony will immediately conclude the final race in Yellow Springs. Everyone is invited out!

Points will be awarded for each race with the winner of each category receiving an Overall Series Winner jersey presented by Pactimo.

All races in this series will use the new USA Cycling cyclocross racing category classification.  A rider will be classified from 1 to 4 respectably.

Kinetic Systems - Flying Rhino Cycling Club / Tailwind Enterprises present the Springfield Oaks UCI  Cyclo-cross Race on September
23rd and 24th

Flyer

This will be our third year kicking off the domestic UCI cyclo-cross season in  late September. Both days of racing are UCI C2 events, making our Saturday race the first UCI cross race on the domestic calendar.

For this year, we’ve moved to an exciting new venue at the equestrian area of Springfield Oaks County Park in Davisburg, Mi. This facility boasts short, but dramatic elevation changes, off-camber sections, a small woods, open grassy meadow areas and gravel lanes. The variety should make for a challenging, fun course and a true test of cyclo-cross skills. There’s a good chance we’ll even include a trip through the horse barn to add a little extra interest.

The Flying Rhino Cycling Club was founded over 25 years ago by the owners of Kinetic Systems Bicycle Shop. The same folks still own the shop today and the ties between the club and the store are very tight. In fact, Jeff (one of the store owners) coaches the club’s road and cyclo-cross teams. The Flying Rhinos are involved in every sort of bicycle racing and touring imaginable, but over the past several years a special passion for cross has developed in the Flying Rhino Cycling Club and at Kinetic Systems. That’s why we’re so proud to partner with Tailwind Enterprises, promoter of one of the midwest’s premier cyclo-cross series, to bring you this event.

Last year we drew some big names from all over the country, and we hope to see them all back this year. There will be camping available at the venue, and As usual, some housing with host families for elite level racers. For more information on either option, call  Kinetic Systems at 248-625-7000 or email jeff@kineticsystemsbicycles.com. We want to see racers of all levels and categories converge on Davisburg, Mi for these two days. One of the best parts of UCI weekend is meeting and competing against racers from all areas of the US and Canada, who we may only see at this event.

So, mark your calendars, polish your cross skills, and show up to throw down at the US UCI opener. Look for more details and a race flyer for this weekend and the other races in the Tailwind Cyclo-cross Series, coming soon at www.tailwind.net.
