Save Sunday, January 22 for the WCA Cyclocross Banquet.  Banquet start is at 5pm.  Location will once again be the Delafield Brewhaus.  This is your chance to relive all the best (and worst) moments of the 2005 cyclocross season.  Madcross.org will once again be preparing a season compilation video/slideshow to ensure no one forgets all the moments of the season.  Tickets are $10.  More info at the WCA site.

USCF rules will allow more barriers for 2006

From the 2006 rulebook:

5A11. Races which are not UCI events, national championships, or used to qualify riders for national teams or international competition may have two additional sets of temporary artificial barriers (3 total). The barriers must meet the specifications in 5A10 and the total number of obstacles may not exceed six.

However, the trend internationally is to minimize use of barriers and instead use terrain features to force dismounts.  The rules on number of barriers for UCI races will remain one set of two barriers.

Cyclocross categories to be revamped

For 2006 USA Cycling will be designating a Cat 1-4 designation on racing licenses for cyclocross.  Riders will then need to apply for category upgrade or downgrade as is done now for USCF or NORBA.

More information.

Support Bjorn Selander's World Championship bid

As many of you know, Bjorn Selander was a discretionary pick for the World's Teams this year.  However he was not granted an automatic selection by USA Cycling which means the trip will cost more.  With Bjorn going to the Euro Cross camp and then back to Europe in mid January for World's, his total expenses will be over $4,000.

Bjorn is paying his own way to Euro Camp with assistance from the Alan Factory Team, but has no funding for the World's trip. To help finance the World's trip a Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction will be taking place on January 7.  Details are:

January 7th, 5-9 pm
Alwins Northside Service
413 6th Street North
Hudson, WI
715.386.3233
Event Flyer

If you are not able to attend the dinner, you can send a paypal donation to
euromedia@comcast.net and indicate "Bjorn Selander Fund". Simply go to www.paypal.com to sign up and contribute.

Help Send US Cyclocross racers to Cross Worlds

MadCross.org is once again raising funds to send US Cyclocross racers to Cross Worlds.  Wisconsin native Bjorn Selander has once again been chosen to represent the US at Cyclocross Worlds and is also attending a pre-Worlds camp in Europe.  This costs a lot of money and USA Cycling does not help out.

However, MadCross has numerous ways you can help out.  Check out our US World's support webpage and consider getting a calendar, DVD, photo or other great cross item.

You can also buy Doper's Suck coffee, donate directly to the TIAA-Cref boys, or donate directly to Mo Bruno Roy.  You can also support Bjorn by simply donating money directly to his cause (see article below).

USA Cycling Selects Worlds Team

January 13, 2006
USA Cycling announced its elite men's picks on Friday, filling out its 20-rider roster for the world's.

The team includes Kona riders Ryan Trebon, Barry Wicks and Erik Tonkin, all of Oregon. Trebon was an automatic selection based on his top-50 slot in the UCI rankings; Wicks won automatic selection as top American in the 2005 Crank Brothers U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross series; and Tonkin was a discretionary pick.

Three-time national champion Jonathan Page (Cervelo) also earned an automatic nomination based on his UCI ranking, while Jeremy Powers (Jelly Belly) was a discretionary pick.

Both reigning U.S. elite national champions - Todd Wells (GT-Hyundai) and Katie Compton (Cody Racing) - declined their nominations to the world's team, as did Tim Johnson (Cyclocrossworld-Louis Garneau), who won bronze in the U-23 race at the 1999 world's.

Christine Vardaros (Lotto-Belisol) fills Compton's slot on the women's team.
