Jingle Cross Rock a success

Special appearances by US Olympic Cyclist and Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team Rider Jason McCartney and 5 time UCI World Mountain Bike Champion Steve Tilford highlighted the day in the Men's Elite A race. Tilford showed his cross skills on the technical areas and emerged victorious in the 2nd annual TIAA-CREF Coralville Jingle Cross Rock.

In the Women's race Linda Sone (Hollywood Cycles) held on to beat Catherine Walberg (Team Kenda Tire) in a hard fought race.  Sone took the women by only 18 seconds over Walberg with the 3rd and 4th place finishers well off the fast pace set by the top two.

Wisconsin State Cyclocross Championship

A cold windy day greeted racers at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie for the Wisconsin State Cyclocross Championship.  At the end of the day WCA Series Overalls would be decided and new state champions would be determined.

With a redesigned course that did not go onto the very muddy clay race track riders were greeted with many new challenges.  Bike handling skills would be tested with many tight corners and new off camber sections.  Several steep uphills also challenged riders along with one 3 barrier section and one barrier to an uphill run.

December 21, 2005
The TIAA-CREF/Clif Bar Cyclo-Cross Development Team is sending four riders across the pond today to spend the holiday season racing in the most competitive and relentless cyclo-cross series of the season throughout cross crazed Belgium and Holland. The trip will provide valuable preparation for the World Championships later in January as well as real world experience in the two week whirlwind that is the Christmas cross rush in Belgium.

Representing for the juniors will be Danny Summerhill and Alex Howes. Danny is coming off a Crank Brothers USGP Overall win as well as a National Championship win two weekends ago in Providence, RI where Alex placed second. The U23 flag will be flown by Troy Wells and Brady Kappius. Troy picked up an excellent victory at the US National Championships two weeks ago as well and Brady grabbed a well earned sixth place. All of these riders were selected as members of the US National Cyclo-Cross World Championship Team on the merit of each of their strong performances throughout the season.

These four will be joining a larger US contingent of cross racers selected and managed by US National Coach Geoff Proctor at his third annual Christmas “Cross Camp”. There will be full slate of racing on tap with six events in 12 days. The schedule stacks up as follows:
Diegem Super Prestige, Saturday 24 Dec

Hooglede World Cup, Saturday 31 Dec
St Niklaas C2, Monday 2 Jan

Last Chicago Cross Cup set for December 4

This Sunday in Chicago is set to be great!  The new course uses Cricket Hill, the beach, a cool underground walkway (going both directions) and something called the Zig Zag of death.

In addition, the Chicago Cross Cup has got a boosted prize list that pays out very deep in each category (e.g. 10 deep mens B, new prizes for Junior women). They've also had a late sponsor come on so they're paying two deep for the overall series.

Get out the race details at the Chicago Cross Cup website.
